Kerry Secures USDA Funding for Eco-Friendly Agriculture Initiative
admin June 14, 2024 ArticleKerry has been awarded a $21 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to bolster its “Midwest Greener Future” initiative through the Regional Conservation Partnership Program (RCPP).
This dynamic, farm-centric sustainable agriculture scheme is aimed at reducing carbon emissions and enhancing water quality throughout supply chains in the states of Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, and Indiana.
Kerry’s objectives under this plan are to decrease enteric emissions from dairy cows by 59,800 metric tons using 3-NOP, lower emissions from manure storage by 22,500 metric tons, and accomplish a whopping 327,491 metric tons in crop production emission reductions and carbon sequestration.
Further, the proposed action plan will help avert the contamination of water sources by preventing 3,056,585 pounds of nitrogen and 218,328 pounds of phosphorus from entering them.
Expressing his gratitude towards the USDA for the grant, Mike Gransee, Vice President of Responsible Sourcing at Kerry, stated that such aids would aid farmers and partners in speeding up climate-oriented, nature-centric practices, ultimately fostering a more resilient and environment-friendly future for agriculture in the Midwest.
